Telephone and Email Fraud Alert

Recently, multiple Maynard residents are reporting telephone scams. The caller claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and demanding immediate payment for past taxes that are overdue. The caller will ask for payment to be made that day, either by mailing a money order, providing bank account information, or credit card information.

The IRS will always send taxpayers a written notification of any tax due via the U.S. mail. The IRS never asks for credit card, debit card, or prepaid card information over the telephone.
