In June, Maynard Police were made aware of a possible scam where people were pretending to be home repair contractors. The fake contractors would charge residents for home repairs and continue to charge them larger amounts of money without completing the work or being licensed to do so.
As a result, an older Maynard resident fell victim to the scam and lost more than $100,000.
Following an extensive investigation, Maynard Police identified two suspects, NEVIN and O’DONOGHUE, and executed arrest warrants. Both men were arrested without incident on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Maynard Police subsequently learned that O’DONOGHUE and NEVIN were wanted on arrest warrants out of Ireland.
O’DONOGHUE and NEVIN were arraigned in Concord District Court and each held on $15,000 bail. Both men were also required to surrender their passports and wear to wear GPS monitors.
Maynard Police would like to thank Brockton, Braintree, and Wayland Police for their assistance with this investigation. Maynard Police also thanks Officer Eric Davoll for his prominent role in the investigation.
Maynard Police would also like to remind residents and community members to stay vigilant and research companies before hiring and paying someone for repairs.
