The Maynard Police Department will be receiving a new comfort dog this year. Otis, the 10-week-old chocolate lab will officially be a member of the department on Feb. 8.
Otis will accompany School Resource Officer Allison McCann to Maynard Public Schools, senior centers, assisted living facilities, and will also make an appearance at community events.
Otis will help with de-escalation, and provide comfort to children in need who may be experiencing or have experienced trauma.
Otis is from Puddleduck Labs in Morrill, Maine and will begin basic obedience training after his arrival in Maynard.
