Chief Anthony Stowers and Chief Michael A. Noble would like to announce the Maynard Fire and Police departments were each awarded a $10,000 grant from the Middlesex Charitable Foundation.
The fire department money will be used to purchase a new rescue boat and other essential equipment to help members of the department safely do their job.
“Our current boat is over twenty-years-old and has become a maintenance issue in the last few years. This donation comes at a great time for us to replace this piece of equipment,” Chief Stowers said. “This gift will assist our firefighters should they need to make water or ice rescues with a safe vessel that can serve the community for many years to come. The Maynard Fire Department is extremely grateful for the generosity displayed by Middlesex Savings and we are glad they are such a caring community partner.”
The police department will use the money for new traffic cones; uniforms and equipment for students of the Maynard Police Summer Youth Academy; and for future trainings, such as an active shooter training in the schools.
“We are incredibly thankful for this generous donation,” Chief Noble said. “This grant will be incredibly useful for replacing damaged or out-of-date equipment, while also helping to sustain the Maynard Police Summer Youth program so we can continue to run it at no charge for the students.”
Mike McAuliffe, president and CEO of Middlesex Savings Bank, said the grant is a gesture of gratitude and recognition for the work first responders do to keep the community safe.
“We saw that firsthand last summer when several local police and fire departments responded to the downtown Natick fire across the street from our branch,” he said. “As a 185-year-old community bank, supporting the organizations that care for our customers and neighbors is a vital part of our heritage.”
The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation was established in 2000 to carry out the philanthropic mission of the Middlesex Saving Bank. Over the last two decades, the Foundation has provided more than $10 million in grants to local non-profit organizations and programs in a variety of fields, including education, public health and welfare, the arts and community development.
“It is very rewarding to have Middlesex Savings Bank select the Maynard Fire Department for this generous grant,” said Mark Tomyl, President of Maynard Firefighters IAFF Local 1947. “Many of our members are customers, and our Local 1947 accounts have been there since it was Assabet Savings. This goes to show the great things that can be done when local banking and businesses invest in their communities, and the communities support them in return.”
